Family Guy's Quagmire puts Brian in his place

Last night we had comedy done the wrong way (The Cleveland Show) and comedy done the right way on Family Guy. It also showed that Quagmire has some sense and a heart, as he unleashed a very effective rant on Brian (he doesn't like Brian and that view was only worsened earlier in the ep when Brian insulted Quagmire's sister). Here's the scene in its entirety.

What You Missed Last Night: the most disgusting TV episode of the year

The Cleveland ShowIt's episodes like this that make me think the Parents Television Council has a point.*

I watched The Cleveland Show last night, and since it's from the same people who bring us Family Guy and American Dad, I know it's supposed to be edgy and daring and a very adult cartoon. But jeez, does it have to go this far? The plot had to do with Cleveland's dad falling for an older woman who came for Thanksgiving whom he later found out was a guy. Not only did we have to endure endless farting by the woman, Cleveland's dad had sex with the her (not knowing it was a guy) and we had endless jokes about fisting and oral sex. Oh, and let's not forget the three minutes of vomiting that Cleveland and his dad did.

The Next Iron Chef: Season Finale - open thread

Next Iron ChefSo last night was the big battle between Chef Garces and Chef Mehta, the two finalists on Food Network's Next Iron Chef with two very different cooking styles. I didn't watch much of this season, but judging from last night's episode I wish I had. Jeffrey Steingarten is one of my favorite judges, and it's interesting to see other iron chefs in the judging chairs.

Did the right chef win?

American Music Awards: J.Lo falls, Adam Lambert freaks out parents

adam lambertI had the American Music Awards on last night in the background, and for the most part it looked like a pretty standard awards show: People wore pretty dresses, played pianos suspended by wires, wore more makeup than their wives (I'm looking at you, Keith Urban), and simulated oral sex. Wait-- what?

Yeah, so for once, Lady Gaga's performance, which involved smashing a plate-glass window and setting a piano on fire wasn't the most interesting performance of the night. Instead, everyone is talking about two people: Jennifer Lopez and Adam Lambert. Lopez's unfortunate fall during her performance of "Louboutins" probably mortified her, but it wasn't the most awkward thing to happen during the ceremony. That distinction goes to American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert's decidedly non-family-friendly performance.

You can check out both videos after the jump.

What You Missed Last Night: Jimmy Fallon almost gets sued by Twilight producers

The entire time I watched this clip from last night's Late Night, I was thinking, "if Taylor Lautner smashes into a wall face-first or falls off of the mini-bike and cracks his head open, Fallon is going to be in big trouble." The two guys raced around the NBC hallways on mini-bikes. The winner wins because he cheats.

Kristen Stewart can really throw a football

There's a major movie opening tomorrow. It's the movie everyone is talking about and obsessed with, to the point of standing in line for hours and hours, and they say it could be the highest-grossing movie of the year. Of course, I'm talking about The Blind Side.

Kristen Stewart is in a movie tomorrow too, and last night she appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and threw footballs at plats. If the whole movie thing doesn't work out...

What You Missed Last Night: Spencer Pratt wants to run for President

Last night, Spencer Pratt announced on The Tonight Show that he might run for President. His reasoning? It has to do with becoming hated by everyone and hacking computers. Or something. I don't think he's thought it through yet. Seth Green gets a little dig in, and the audience is obviously tired of him and Heidi.

What you don't hear in the clip (it cuts off early) is the audience actually booing Heidi and Spencer. My favorite part of the show was the end, as the music played and credits rolled Conan talked to guest Brian Setzer and Green talked to Andy, leaving Speidi all alone in the middle on the couch, not sure where to look or who to talk to.

What's Hot on SlashControl: Endless Love on Glee

There were some great songs on last night's Glee, including the first one sung by Rachel and Will. As I mentioned in my review, this song set the tone for not only the episode, but the storyline of Rachel's crush on Mr. Schuester. But what was funny is that while they were singing it -- "Endless Love" -- everyone else's mind was wandering to their own thoughts of love, butts, Diana Ross, and underwear:

Kurt: "I could totally sing this song with Finn, but screw him if he thinks he's taking the Diana Ross part from me."

Puck: "I love the days when I don't wear underwear. Full commando."

Finn: "I never noticed how nice Rachel's butt is. Oh crap, I think Quinn knows I'm staring at it."

Rachel: "Wow, I've never noticed this before because he's always trying to destroy my career, but Mr. Shu has really pretty eyes."

What You Missed Last Night: Chelsea Handler explains why she called in sick

For the first time ever, Chelsea Handler called in sick the other night. On last night's show she came in to explain what happened (and infect everyone on her staff, apparently). She gets in a funny jab at her older boyfriend too.

Oddly, even though Handler is getting over a sickness she sounds clearer than she usually does.

Melrose Place: Cahuenga - open thread

LocklearWell, last night was the BIG night on the new Melrose Place, the return of Amanda Woodward (Heather Locklear). Judging from Locklear's entrance, she really did shake up things on the show.

A question for fans of the original: did this make you watch this episode even though you weren't watching the new show? And for fans of the new show who really aren't familiar with the original: are you excited by Locklear being on the show?

What You Missed Last Night: Jon Stewart, the ball, and the stick

It's the holiday season, and for the kids that probably means toys. Last night on The Daily Show, Jon Stewart had a bone to pick with the National Toy Hall of Fame and the criteria to use when they choose toys to be inducted. Stick got in the hall before ball?

What's Hot on SlashControl: Dancing With Myself from last night's Glee

Yes, I know I posted the "Defying Gravity" video from last night's Glee earlier today. But here's another good one -- "Dancing With Myself" sung by Artie Abrams (Kevin McHale).

I must admit, it's hard to get the Billy Idol version out of my head, but the tune was perfect for the wheelchair-bound Artie as he wheels through the school corridors (quite well, I might add) and looks longingly at Tina (who has a secret of her own).

Here's the video straight from our sister site, SlashControl. Which song is your favorite from last night's Glee -- "Defying Gravity," "Dancing With Myself," or "Proud Mary"? (Tell me in the comments if I've missed any!)

Be sure to read Allison's review of the episode, and if you haven't checked out Joel's post on why Artie isn't played by a real-life disabled actor, be sure to throw in your two cents there.

This is one reason I don't watch The Jay Leno Show

The reason I don't particularly like The Jay Leno Show (besides the fact that he's taking up five hours a week on the NBC schedule) comes down to three words: "it's not funny."

Usually I post videos because they're good or funny or interesting or clever or strange. I'm posting this one to show you the type of humor you're missing if you don't watch Leno's show. Talk about forced and going on too long. Jeez.

Carrie Prejean walks off Larry King Live ... wait, she doesn't!

Miss California USA, Carrie Prejean, has a new book out, and she was on Larry King Live last night to promote it. Larry asked her about the lawsuit she filed against the pageant, but she didn't want to talk about that and even told Larry he was being "inappropriate." She then talks to someone off-camera and it looks like she's about to walk off the set but then changes her mind (or her handlers changed it for her). She came back after the commercial and said she didn't want questions from viewers.

In her defense, the settlement was private, and that probably includes the reason why it was settled, not just the amount. But she just looks goofy taking off her mic and telling Larry that she can't hear him (even though she can clearly hear him because she answers him). The moral: either answer the questions or just leave the show.

What You Missed Last Night: Jimmy Fallon shoots a gun and makes quips

Apparently there was a big video game released yesterday. Galaga or something? Last night Jimmy Fallon disclosed that he filmed scenes for the game but the character was ultimately rejected. Luckily there's still footage of the scenes.

They should have given Jimmy more time to get out of his outfit though.
